NOSTROMO terms of use and subscription

These terms govern the use of the NOSTROMO app and of the NOSTROMO Premium subscription. The app is provided by LCM SRL (developer name on the stores: LCM TECH APP), Via F. Petrarca 68/70, 50041 Calenzano (FI), Italy, VAT IT06381170486, support@nostromoapp.com. By downloading and using the app you accept these terms. The Italian version is available here.

1. The service

NOSTROMO offers marine weather, management of your boat’s maintenance jobs and documents, an assistant based on artificial intelligence (“Nostromo”) and, with the Premium subscription, extra features such as route planning and navigation, an anchor alarm, a cruising guide and posting in the “Crew” community. The app is intended for adults.

2. Safety at sea: please read carefully

NOSTROMO is an aid, not a certified navigation instrument.

Weather forecasts come from numerical models and are for guidance only: always check the official forecasts before going out.
Route and navigation calculate straight-line distances without taking into account shallows, hazards, currents, leeway or restricted areas, and depend on the accuracy of your phone’s GPS. They don’t replace official charts, a certified chartplotter or a proper watch on deck.
The anchor alarm only works with the phone on, charged and with the app running: it doesn’t replace keeping an anchor watch.
Nostromo’s answers are generated by artificial intelligence and may contain mistakes. For electrical systems, gas, structure, rudder and rigging, consult a professional.
In an emergency call the local emergency number (112 in the EU) or use VHF channel 16.

Navigation decisions always remain the responsibility of the skipper.

3. NOSTROMO Premium subscription

Plans: monthly or yearly. The price in your currency, including any applicable tax, is shown by Google Play or the App Store before you buy (in Italy: €5.99 a month or €49.99 a year).
Free trial: if you have never used it, you can get a 7-day free trial. Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the trial, the subscription starts and you are charged.
Automatic renewal: the subscription renews automatically at the end of each period at the same price, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. You are charged through your Google Play or Apple account.
How to cancel: from the subscription settings of Google Play or the App Store (Settings → your name → Subscriptions), or from “Manage subscription” in the app. Uninstalling the app does not cancel the subscription. After cancelling, Premium stays active until the end of the period you have already paid for.
Refunds: handled by Google or Apple according to their rules.
Price changes: any increase will be notified to you by the store in advance and won’t apply without the confirmations required by the store.
Promo codes: may give free periods according to the conditions stated with the code.

4. Free plan

Without a subscription you can use the weather with 3-hourly forecasts, Maintenance, Documents, 5 questions a month to Nostromo, and read the Crew. The limits of the free plan may change over time.

5. Crew rules

By posting in the Crew you agree to: respect others (no insults, harassment or discrimination); not post advertising or sales; not post other people’s personal data; post only photos suitable for everyone; not give advice that puts anyone in danger at sea; post only content you have the rights to. You grant LCM SRL a free, non-exclusive licence to show your content in the app. We may remove content and exclude users who break these rules. You can report content and block users from the app.

6. Fair use

Don’t use the app for unlawful purposes, don’t try to get around the limits of the free plan or the subscription checks, and don’t copy or resell the app’s content.

7. Liability

We do our best to make the app work well, but we can’t guarantee that it will always be available or error-free, nor the accuracy of third-party data (weather, charts, harbours). To the extent permitted by law, LCM SRL is not liable for damage arising from the use of the app’s information for navigation decisions. This does not affect the rights the law grants to consumers.

9. Changes

We may update these terms; the date at the top shows the latest version. For important changes we will let you know in the app.

10. Governing law

Italian law applies, without prejudice to the mandatory consumer protection rules of your country of residence. If you are a consumer, the competent court is the one where you live. In case of discrepancies between the language versions, the Italian version prevails.
